Are running Martingales legal equipment?

I had someone tell me that a training fork 0r running martingale is NOT allowed at Desert Riders. But the CGA rules say Any appropriate, neat and humane Western and/or English equipment may be used with the following exception: the judge may prohibit the use of bits or equipment he may consider severe or unsafe. Is a running martingale severe or unsafe? Thanks in advance.

Ive been using a running
Ive been using a running martingale for years at various Cga districts including spring classic,northern classic and state. I have never had a problem with not being able to use it. Just make sure it's fitted correctly. Happy riding !!!

As long as it is safe and fitted properly it is ok. Sometimes people use a Martingale in conjuction with other tack and that can be a problem if it is harmful to the horse or rider. In that case a jude could consider it illegal. The main thing CGA is concerned with is rider and horse safety. Have fun and enjoy! Welcome to our club and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!
